How to install APK, XAPK & OBB files
Five minutes, no root required. Works on Android 7 through 15.
- Uninstall the original app. A modded build is signed with a different certificate, so Android refuses to install it over the Play Store version. Back up your save first if the game supports it.
- Allow installs from your browser. Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → choose your browser or file manager → Allow.
- Install an APK. Open the downloaded .apk from the notification shade or your Downloads folder and tap Install.
- Install an XAPK / APKS bundle. Install a split installer (SAI or XAPK Installer from the Play Store), open the .xapk/.apks with it and tap Install. It installs all splits and copies the OBB data automatically.
- Copy OBB data manually (if needed). Unzip the OBB archive and move the folder named after the package (e.g. com.example.game) into Android/obb/. On Android 11+ use a file manager with “Android/obb” access, or do it over USB.
- Launch and verify. Open the app and check the MOD features listed on the mod page. If a MOD menu is included, look for a floating icon.
APK vs XAPK vs APKS vs OBB
- APK — a single installable package. Just open it.
- XAPK / APKS / APKM — a zip containing several split APKs (and sometimes OBB). Needs a split installer.
- OBB — expansion data for big games, stored in
Android/obb/<package>/. Without it the game shows a black or loading screen.
Do I need root?
Almost never. Each mod page shows a No root needed or Root required badge; the few root builds say so clearly.
Online games and bans
Mods for online games can be detected. Use a secondary account and never on a profile you care about. Offline games carry no such risk.
